The Rhys Hoskins era is already off to a tenuous start in Philadelphia.

The eagerly anticipated Phillies call-up fielded questions from reporters this morning, but the first baseman/left fielder found himself in hot water after failing to correctly answer a fluff question from Phillies field reporter Gregg Murphy about the 2016 Eagles record.

“The Eagles start their preseason tonight against the Green Bay Packers, how do you think they’ll do this year?” Murph casually asked the 24-year-old slugger prior to his first organized practice with the team.

“I think they’ll probably improve off of last year’s performance, I know a few of the guys over there and they’re a good bunch. What were they, 8-8 last year? I could see 9-7,” Hoskins answered.

A stunned silence fell over the assembled media corps, as reporters stopped taking notes and nervously looked at one another. The silence was broken by the shattering of an “Eagles #1” mug Phillies beat writer Ryan Lawrence dropped.

Hoskins was quickly escorted out of the press conference by a Phillies staffer, who informed the corps that he wouldn’t be available for any additional questions.

His faux pas quickly made the rounds through the Philadelphia sports media.

“Daw bo, that’s a complete violation! You’re playing in Philadelphia, you should be a Philly guy, ride or die, cmon’ cuz, that’s ridiculous! What, this on the morning of the Birds first preseason game! That’s outrageous. Daw, Hoskins, you won’t be on the 97.5 Fanatic Meat Locker anytime soon with that stuff. Get out of here with that!” Anthony Gargano said this morning on 97.5 The Fanatic.

The Phillies quietly issued a press release at 12:15 p.m. this afternoon noting that Hoskins had been released from the organization.
